Ensuring high performance and safety
By testing our products, we ensure the physical and functional durability as well as the performance and safety of our products.
At Sports Group Denmark, we do many different physical and functional durability tests. This can be for pilling, tearing, colorfastness, or waterproofness. The products are also tested for chemistry, so that there are no potentially harmful substances in the products. We use a third-party test company to test our products in relation to REACH as well as AFIRMS test recommendations. Ensuring documented high quality, safe, and durable products.
Designed for long term use
Sportswear is not bought for short-term use or for a single occasion. Our products are designed and tested for very long-term use. There are three types of durability that support long-term use: physical, functional, and emotional.
Physical durability
Physical durability is defined by the time the garment stays in use before it breaks or is worn out. This can be visually through colors fading or pilling etc., or physically through tears, seams that pucker or break.
Functional durability
Functional durability is the time that the product stays functional for its intended purpose and meets the users’ expectations and needs.
An example of functional durability is whether a raincoat will continue to repel water after several wears and washes. The product should also be easy and comfortable to use for its intended purpose. For example, a ski jacket and the correct placement of a pocket for the lift card.
Emotional durability
Emotional durability refers to the user’s attachment to the product. This can be formed through stories and memories that the user has embedded in the product through use. The attachment can also be formed by meaningful design, a perfect fit, material, or other characteristics that makes the product special and desirable for the user.
As an example of physical durability, we have made a Garment Durability Wash test of an Endurance t-shirt made of 100% Polyester in black. The t-shirt has been tested in 4 different wash tests with an increase in wash cycles from 10, 50, 100 to 200 washes.
After each test the garment is visually asset and compared to the control t-shirt on e.g.: Color change, appearance of print and fabric, pilling, and seams.
The product is fully functional even after 200 washes, created to be used again and again for years.
